Motivation Monday

Updated: Apr 30

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great training weekend! *not a sponsored post

This is a very simple short video, but it points out something you don't think about. Socks. I don't wear any on the bike, but for long runs I need them. This coach discusses how a simple change of socks can prevent blisters and help you mentally. I agree. I am training for Ironman Florida, my first Ironman, and am planning on putting a pair of socks in my runs special needs bag. I know I won't get the ones I put in there back, but the idea of a fresh pair of socks halfway into the run after a long day sounds amazing.

This gentleman has already completed one triathlon. He is working on himself and getting in shape. He currently has a hybrid bike and is working on losing enough weight to get a road bike. He is proof if you put your mind to it, you can do it. This video is a reminder it's a sprint, not a marathon.

This video is a short PSA. For those of us who race Ironman, they have a new hydration provider on the course, which is Mortal Hydration. This video explains the differences. After July, plan accordingly.

Swimming. For some people that is a word of dread. I can't tell you how many times people have seen me in a triathlon shirt and will say "Oh I can run and bike but I just don't know about that swim. I tell people one of the best things that you can invest in is joining a triathlon club that offers swim coaching or swim lessons. I sought out my club due to coming out of the water completely out of breath, having to walk to transition, and spend half the bike catching my breath. Being able to swim efficiently makes triathlons much more enjoyable. Here are some drills to help your stroke.

The last video discusses how to acclimate to cold water and the importance of practicing open water swimming, which I have not been diligent about before Ironman 70.3 Gulf Coast. I will be more diligent in the six months I have until Ironman Florida. There is a big difference between the pool and open water. Trust me, you will miss the walls you push off of. This video gives some great tips to help get you going in open water.
