Keeping Gas in the Tank


Fueling before, during, and after workouts. It is one of the hardest things about the triathlon world. Everybody is different. What works for one, may not work for all. It is one of the reasons you need to experiment with nutrition during training. What works for your friend that is training for their 5th marathon may not work for you. One brand may work great for your training partner but bother your stomach or you may not feel refueled from it.



Here are a few of my favorite nutrition products I use before during and after training. The first product I use for shorter training sessions and recovery after is Skratch. https://www.skratchlabs.com I use the hydration mix for shorter training sessions or mix it in my water on the hot Florida days where I need a few more electrolytes after training. I also use the chocolate recovery mix when I am done with longer workouts to get some carbs and protein in me immediately. Both of these are light in taste and not overpowering and the powder mixes in well with a shake of the water bottle.



The next product I use before and after workouts is a product called Infinit. https://www.infinitnutrition.us/

The great thing about this product is you can talk to someone, explain what types of events or exercise you are doing and they will customize your formula with the ingredients you need. I have an endurance based formula, and two different proteins from them. They all taste good and mix really well.


The last product I use is called Carborocket. https://carborocket.com/ I switch between their hydration mix and Skratch for my shorter workouts. On my longer workouts, I use Carborocket 333 Half-Evil. I use it towards the back end of my workouts, because I feel it almost gives you an extra boost whey you are tired.



Some of you may be asking where my gels and chews are, but I started working with a sports dietitian who recommended these products. The biggest thing I like about switching to all liquid products is I feel more stable during trainings and races. When I was using gels and chews, it felt like a rollercoaster. I would have energy and then I would just crash. With drinking the liquid nutrition, I feel like my energy is more of a straight line. Once again, what works for me may not work for everyone, but you can always get a single serving and try it during your training. I also recommend bringing what you usually use in case the new thing you are trying doesn't work for you. Enjoy the ride & Happy training.
